Description: Superior plum is a cross between a Japanese and American plum. It is very cold hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -30° F. P. 'Superior' likes full sun, medium moisture, but is adaptable to varying soil types and pH levels. It is tolerate to urban pollution, even surviving in inner cities. Under ideal conditions, this tree can live to 40 years or more.

Small white, fragrant flowers bloom in the spring, giving way to deliciously sweet plums that are ripe in August. The skin of the fruit is red with golden yellow flesh. They have an inedible pit in the middle. You can eat the plums fresh or use them in desserts, jams, juices, and jellies. Superior plum does not self-pollinate, so another plum is necessary for fruiting.
